The company was originally incorporated as Shri Krishan Gupta Private Limited on 13th August, 1981. The company was promoted by Mr. Arvind Saraf and Mr. V.P. Agarwal. The plant was initially set up for the manufacture of cold rolled copper/brass strips & foils with an installed capacity of 1,666 TPA. The commercial production commenced in 1984.
On 25th May, 1985, the company became a deemed public limited company and its name was changed to Shri Krishna Strips Limited. On 30th May, 1986, C. Bhailal & Co. Limited, a company engaged in the manufacture of Hot Rolled Copper / Brass Strips was amalgamated with the company as per the scheme of amalgamation approved by the Delhi High Court.
In 1987-88 the company undertook a backward integration project by adding melting and hot rolling facilities to make the units composite one in March 1988. In 1989-90, the company undertook an expansion cum modernisation scheme leading to increase of capacity from 1,666 TPA to 3,600 TPA and to commence manufacture of thin gauge copper foils (upto 0.04mm). This scheme was completed in October 1990.
In 1991-92 the company undertook a balancing-cum-modernisation scheme aimed at expanding the installed capacity from 3,600 TPA to 4,500 TPA and the scheme was completed in April 1992.
On 23rd April, 1993 the name of the company was changed to SKS Limited and the company set up its Waterways division by diversifying into water transport with Hovercrafts and Catamarans.
Manufacturing Division
The company is presently engaged in the manufacture of brass & copper foils, strips and sheets including radiator brass foils and radiator copper foils. The products find wide application in the field of automotive radiators, gaskets, oil coolers, XLPE cables, torch body, battery caps, eyelets, switch gear industry ammunition cartridge, HRC fuses, explosives, filters, stainers etc.
Waterways Division
The company operates Hovercrafts between:
i. Gateway of India (South Bombay) and Vashi (New Bombay), and
ii. Gateway of India (South Bombay) and Nhava Sheva.
With the development of the New Bombay region and the shifting of cargo operations to the newly commissioned Nhava Sheva Port, commercial traffic between South Bombay and these points has been growing.
The company plans to launch Catamaran services from 1st April, 1995 between:
i. Nariman Point (South Bombay) and Bandra (a suburb of Bombay)
ii. Nariman Point (South Bombay) and Versova (a suburb of Bombay)
The target group for these services are executives travelling between these points.
