NRB Bearings Limited was set up as a joint venture with Nadella, France, the oldest needle bearing manufacturer in the world, for the manufacture of needle rollers, needle cages, needle bushes and needle roller bearings. The company was incorporated in Bombay on 30th June, 1965 under the name of Needle Roller Bearing Company Private Limited. The Company later became a deemed public limited company under Section 43A(1) of the Companies Act, w.e.f. 27.01.1966 and converted into full fledged public company vide Special Resolution passed on 10th December, 1994. Starting with a few sizes of needle rollers, it expanded its capacity to eventually manufacture a wide range of needle rollers, needle cages, needle bushes and needle bearings. To keep pace with the expanding range and quantity new plants were set up at Aurangabad, Maharashtra in 1980 and Waluj, Maharashtra in 1991. Together with the Thane plant they form the Needle Bearing Division (NBD) of the company.

In 1982, NRB Bearings expanded its product range and set up the General Bearing Division (GBD) at Jalna, Maharashtra for the manufacture of cylindrical roller bearings.
